BAF - Bunker Adjustment Factor

The fuel surcharge on ocean shipments, was set in 1990 during the golf war, while global fuel prices reached high levels. This surcharge is officially not in use, due to the lack of flexibility in calculating the changes in ships size and the number of containers loaded. It is custom to call fuel surcharge as BAF.
